Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh Demands Government Response to Incident in Manipur

Harbhajan Singh, a former cricketer for India and a member of the Rajya Sabha, has called for “capital punishment” for all those responsible for the horrific act of paraded two Manipuri women nude and reportedly gang-raped them.

After a video dated May 4 leaked on Wednesday, showing two women from one of the warring factions being paraded nude by a group of men from the opposing side, tension increased in the hills of Manipur.

“To say that I’m outraged would be an understatement. I’m so furious that I’m numb. Because of what occurred in Manipur, I feel humiliated right now. We should cease referring to ourselves as humans if the perpetrators of this heinous murder are not brought to justice and executed. The fact that this has occurred sickens me. There is plenty. On Thursday, Harbhajan tweeted, “Government MUST act.

As not many athletes have yet remarked on the event, Harbhajan is among the first to respond from the athletic community.

According to Manipur police, a complaint of kidnapping, gang rape, and murder against unidentified armed individuals has been filed at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district. They said that every attempt is being made to apprehend the offenders as soon as possible.

Since May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, more than 150 people have died and several more have been wounded as a result of ethnic violence in Manipur.

The Meiteis make up around 53% of Manipur’s population and are mostly concentrated in the Imphal Valley, while the tribal population, which includes the Nagas and Kukis, makes up 40% and is mainly concentrated in the hill areas.
