Gambhir praises Dhoni, and online users find it unbelievable

Gautam Gambhir has received criticism often for publicly criticizing former Indian captain MS Dhoni. The former’s subtle jabs at the illustrious wicketkeeper-batter have often come up in conversation, particularly around the time of India’s 2011 World Cup anniversary. The supporters were shocked by Gambhir’s latest comments on Dhoni, though, as he lavished the former Indian captain with accolades.

The only Indian captain to win three ICC championships is Dhoni. He started off as a leader by winning the T20 World Cup in 2007, followed by the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He retired as one of the all-time greats of the game after leading the team to unprecedented heights in all forms.

Gambhir singled out Dhoni following India’s 10 wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 championship match on Sunday. Speaking on Star Sports, Gambhir said that if the previous captain hadn’t led the team, he would have batted at No. 3.

“He was unable to accomplish what he could have as a hitter because of leadership. As captain, you often need to put the team first. MS may have batted at No. 3 had he not been the captain. He could have set a number of ODI records, I’m sure. He has received several awards, but according to himself, he sacrificed his international runs in order to win awards, according to Gambhir.

Except for the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, Dhoni has batted in every position. His batting average, nevertheless, has been exceptional as the third hitter. In actuality, he scored his maiden ODI century while batting third for India against Pakistan in Vizag.

India is traveling to Australia for one-day international matches.

Team India is preparing for the three-match ODI series against Australia, which will serve as a warm-up for the ICC World Cup 2023, after claiming a record-breaking eighth Asia Cup victory. For the first two games, the management has chosen to rest Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Rohit Sharma. Rahul will captain the team, with Ravindra Jadeja serving as his vice-captain. Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are three players who are headed to the Asian Games who have also been included in the team for the first two games.
