Indian challengers Bopanna, Nagal, and Bhambri will take on Morocco in a World Group II play-off match

At the Vijayant Khand Mini Stadium in this city on Saturday and Sunday, seasoned players Rohan Boppana, Sumit Nagpal, and Yuki Bhambri will spearhead India’s campaign against Morocco in the Davis Cup World Group match.

Rohit Rajpal, the India team’s non-playing captain, revealed the five players for the match on Thursday.

The squad includes of Digvijay Pratap Singh, Rohan Bopanna, Sumit Nagal, Yuki Bhambri, and Sasikumar Mukund.

Rajpal further declared that the match hours had been altered for the comfort of the players and supporters given the exceedingly humid weather. “The weather has been exceedingly humid the last three days that we have trained here. Imagine the suffering of the player; while we stood there, we were completely soaked.

The matches have been moved from 12 noon to 2 pm on Saturday and from 11 am to 1 pm on Sunday due to this,” he said.

After talking with the referees, we agreed to postpone the match times in response to a request from Morocco. It was carried out to create tennis of a higher caliber. If necessary, we are also ready to perform in the dark.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, will hold the draw ceremony on Friday at his official house.

Rajpal also noted that the Davis Cup was coming back to Uttar Pradesh after a 23-year absence, and it was time for the younger generation and the supporters to seize this chance.

Since this is Rohan Bopanna’s final Davis Cup, fans will get the chance to see him in action. It’s a great chance for young people and aspiring athletes to volunteer or serve as ball boys. We also engaged in similar activities as adults. They will be near to the players so they can observe footwork and technique, he said.

In the meanwhile, Elliot Benchetrit, Yassine Dlimi, Adam Moundir, Walid Ahouda, and Younes Lalami Laaroussi were named to the Moroccan team by coach Mehdi Tahiri.

“You don’t see the rankings in Davis Cup. India are the favorites and have higher-ranked players, at least on paper. On the other hand, there will be fights and bouts on the courts. We’re going to battle for our nation and do our best,” he said.

One hour before to the draw, the teams may alter their players.
