ISL 2023–24: Chennaiyin FC loses to Odisha FC 0–2

At the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Chennaiyin FC lost 0–2 to Odisha FC in their debut game of the Indian Super League 2023–24.

In the 44th minute of the game, Jerry Mawihmingthanga scored the game’s first goal, and Diego Mauricio added Odisha FC’s second in the 62nd.

Chennaiyin FC had several chances to score goals but couldn’t put them away. One of these opportunities occurred in the 21st minute when Rafael Crivellaro’s shot from close range was stopped by the opposing goalie. Aakash Sangwan’s exquisite cross was almost converted by Connor Shields in the 43rd minute, but the visitors were unable to take the lead. Six minutes before the conclusion, Farukh Choudhary’s header flew over the crossbar.

Prior to the brief break caused by rain, both teams kept up their unrelenting search for the first goal. Samik Mitra, the goalkeeper for Chennaiyin, made an outstanding stop on Isak Vanlalruatfela’s left-footed attempt from the center of the box in the 23rd minute to prevent Odisha from taking the lead.

However, Mawihmingthanga gave the home team the lead just before halftime when he guided an Amey Ranawade pass with a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner.

In the 62nd minute, Mauricio scored to increase Odisha’s advantage by two goals.

On September 29, Chennaiyin will play their second game of the year against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati, while on September 28, Odisha will host Mumbai City FC.
