Promoters Say That European Football Fans Continue to Support the European Super League

A survey released on Monday by Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22 Sports Management, revealed that 72% of football fans support the idea of a European Super League.

Regarding the promotion of the breakaway tournament, Reichart said, “We still have to convince and overcome a certain reluctance to open the window, change the chip in your mind, and the need for change in European football.”

The Super League’s promoter, A22, commissioned an OpinionWay poll in which 72% of respondents from eight European nations expressed support for the project’s formation.

Younger fans also show even more enthusiasm, with 86% of those surveyed between the ages of 15 and 24 saying they would support the Super League.

However, Reichart said that more effort has to be made to guarantee that clubs are “comfortable” enough to show their support for the tournament.

“We  must create a safe haven where clubs can decide what’s best for them and only for them.”

The first Super League idea, which was announced by 12 teams in 2021, was abandoned due to criticism from English club supporters and intimidation from FIFA and UEFA, the league’s regulatory organizations.

Nine out of the twelve rebel teams, including six from the Premier League, gave in within 48 hours of that declaration.

The concept was given fresh life in December when the European Court of Justice determined that FIFA, the global governing body of football, and UEFA, the organization that oversees European football, had been “abusing a dominant position” by requiring their prior consent for any new events.

Following the decision, A22 revealed its ideas for a brand-new initiative that would have 64 clubs from around Europe divided into three divisions with internal promotion and relegation.

6,458 football fans in eight countries—France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Portugal—who were above the age of 15 were sampled for the OpinionWay poll.
