India’s true hero is Rohit Sharma: Nasser Hussain

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, has been praised by former England captain Nasser Hussain as the “real hero” for transforming the team’s culture via his “fearless cricket” during the current World Cup.

India was criticized for its cowardly cricket throughout the last two Twenty20 World Cups; they lost to England in the quarterfinal of the previous tournament and were unable to get beyond the Super-12 rounds in 2021.

India, on the other hand, has been unwavering throughout this World Cup, making it to their first final in 12 years after winning ten straight games, the most recent of which being their crushing of New Zealand by 70 runs in the semifinal on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Muhammad Shami, Shreyas Iyer, and Virat Kohli will be the main stories in the media. However, Hussain said on Sky Sports that Rohit Sharma is the true star of this Indian team, having transformed the team’s ethos.

“Dinesh Karthik was part of the team when India played timid, meek cricket in Adelaide in the T20 World Cup semifinal. Despite their below-average total, England defeated India by ten wickets. He informed DK that we would need to adapt.

Virat Kohli’s historic 50th ODI century and Shreyas Iyer’s 70-ball 105 helped India reach a mammoth 397 for 4, which they used to knock New Zealand for 327 thanks to Mohammed Shami’s 7 for 57. This set up India’s semifinal victory.

Throughout the competition, India’s batting team has played attacking cricket, led by captain Rohit Sharma, whose potent batting has laid the groundwork.

In his 29-ball 47 on Wednesday as well, Rohit blasted four sixes and four fours to give India an early lead.

“I believe that Rohit was today’s true hero,” Hussain said.

“The group stage and the knockout stage are different, and the captain demonstrated to everyone and his dressing room that they will play fearless cricket in the knockout stages as well. Rohit Sharma’s strategy conveyed a clear message.”

On Sunday, India will play the victor of South Africa vs Australia in the second semifinal.
