PSL champion Imad Wasim makes a retirement suggestion. U-turn: Ready to go if my nation needs me

Imad Wasim, the star of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League 2024 championship, has hinted at a possible comeback to the Pakistan senior squad after his retirement from international cricket.

Imad, who declared his retirement in November of last year, is being mulled over for Pakistan’s selection for the next T20 World Cup. As reported by the ICC, Imad said that he would be at the team’s disposal should Pakistan need him after the team’s victory in the PSL final.

He said that after his announcement of retirement, Shaheen Shah Afridi, the current T20I captain, had gotten in touch with him and informed the pacer they would speak during the PSL.

“I established a reputation for myself while playing for Pakistan, and I’ll be there for my country if it needs me.” If not, I don’t mind at all,” Imad said.

“Shaheen called me after I retired but I told him that we would talk after PSL.”

Hopefully, he’ll return: On Imad’s return, Shadab

Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad United and friend of Imad, said that he had called the all-rounder after he retired and expressed his desire for him to stay on the national team. The all-rounder predicted that Imad and other players would be required and that he would soon reverse course and rejoin the national squad.

“I want to, in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also told him that I didn’t want him to leave,” Shadab said.

“Because players like him are what Pakistan needs.” With any luck, if they have a conversation with him, he will return since the World Cup is quickly coming, and Pakistan much needs him given his performance and CPL (Caribbean Premier League) expertise.”

Imad was included in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad for 2021, however, he was not included in the team for 2022. Throughout the PSL, the all-around player has been at the peak of his game, and he had a fantastic performance against the Multan Sultans in the final.

Imad ended up taking five wickets and scoring nineteen runs to lead his side home. In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan and India have been placed together, and their match is scheduled for June 9.
