Rinku Singh on being called up for the Ireland Tour: “This is Like a Dream, Don’t Want to Wake Up Anytime Soon”

Rinku Singh has not yet competed on a global stage, but he has already been chosen for a few prospective Team India abroad trips. The batter from Aligarh made it to the tour of Ireland, which will also see Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to international play after a protracted injury layoff, only days after being nominated to the team for the Asian Games.

As the team’s leading scorer in the IPL 2023, Rinku had a great experience playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The five consecutive sixes he smashed against Yash Dayal of the Gujarat Titans in the penultimate over, which allowed his side to win the match, worked in his favor. After a thrilling IPL season, opportunities began to come his way. He was selected for the Central Zone teams competing for the Duleep and Deodhar Trophies, and now all he has to do is wear the Indian shirt and represent his nation.

Rinku said the call-up for India still seems like a dream and he never wants to wake up in an interview with The Indian Express.

“This is like a dream,” said the speaker. Rinku was reported as stating, “I don’t want to wake up any time soon.

“It’s an incredible sensation that I find difficult to put into words. I started from scratch to get to this point. We always end up sobbing when I chat to my folks since I’m an emotional person, he said.

Rinku is from a very low-class family. His parents would never have imagined that one of their kids will play for India in the future. The cricketer has worked lowly jobs before becoming successful, and he isn’t afraid to admit it.

“I don’t feel embarrassed to admit to folks that I have worked odd jobs to make ends meet. Why is it flawed? I have the confidence to confront setbacks and challenges because of my history,” he said.

There was a lot of speculation about his selection for the West Indies T20Is, but he was not included. Rinku stated he wasn’t at all disappointed over the rejection since he has experienced worse.

“Dejection wasn’t present. I’ve seen worse. I wasn’t at all discouraged when I wasn’t selected for the West Indies trip. My hands are not in the selection. I can score runs, and I’m already doing it.

“I have this hunch that things would start to fall apart if I think too much. I bat the same way I live in the present. People continually asking me about the strategy behind those five sixes. There was really no planning. It was my day, and I connected brilliantly with every ball I hit. Nothing else than God’s purpose was involved, he said.
