Rohit Sharma is “always in a hurry,” according to Dinesh Karthik, the India captain, before the World Cup

Rohit Sharma was undoubtedly thrilled for his team and over the moon as an Indian when India last won the One Day International (ODI) World Cup, but he also felt sorrow and despair. He was aware that he ought to have been on the squad that won the championship in front of the home fans. For the ICC tournament in 2011, the right-hander was passed over by the selection committee. Since then, India has only been to the ODI World Cup semifinals, and the Men in Blue last won an ICC championship in 2013. Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik talks at length on the rise and rise of Team India’s multi-format skipper as Rohit prepares to lead his soldiers on the biggest stage of them all.

Rohit may be preparing for his last appearance in the ODI version of the ICC tournament, according to Karthik, who participated in India’s T20 World Cup in Australia last year. After being rejected from the Indian World Cup selection in 2011, Rohit has participated in two 50-over tournaments. In the 2019 edition of the ODI World Cup, the senior batter scored the most runs for India. In the 2019 World Cup, Rohit hammered five hundreds for India.

It may be Rohit’s last ODI World Cup.

“Rohit Sharma has accomplished a lot in his career and is destined for great things. This ODI World Cup may very well be his last one. He and I have always been great friends. As players and as individuals, we have really developed together, Karthik told Cricbuzz. India has been without an ODI global championship in 50-over cricket for 12 years. In his first ICC competition, Rohit led the Men in Blue to the T20 global Cup semifinals in Australia last year.

India competed under his direction in the ICC World Test Championship final against eventual champion Australia. He now has a beautiful family, is a good father, and spends a lot of time with them in Mumbai, but most importantly, he never forgets his origins. His closest buddies have remained the same throughout the last 20 years, according to Karthik.

“Rohit has drastically changed his game,”

In the buildup to the ICC World Cup, Rohit guided India to its seventh Asia Cup victory. Rain in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram forced the cancellation of all of India’s World Cup warm-up games. India’s captain Rohit missed the first two One-Day Internationals against Australia in their penultimate series before the World Cup. In the third ODI in Rajkot, The Hitman scored 81 runs off only 57 deliveries against Australia.

“He is a player who has drastically altered his style. He scored the most runs at the 2019 World Cup. I don’t believe he will care even if he just gets half the runs. He has said that he is unconcerned with his number of runs. The World Cup is all about striving to win. He has made it a point to walk the talk with this one. He is always anxious to get Team India off to a strong start and to tire out the opposition’s bowlers, Karthik said.
