Shivam Dube on MS Dhoni handing Ruturaj Gaikwad the captaincy: “I was shocked.”

NEW DELHI: The defending champion Chennai Super Kings had a strong start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign with four wickets taken by Bangladeshi quick Mustafizur Rahman. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, the five-time champions defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets.

With this victory, CSK’s recently chosen captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, achieved his first-ever victory. Only one day before the season’s first game, the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni had given him the important job.

Shivam Dube, who helped CSK win with an undefeated 34 off 28 balls, spoke about his experience playing under new CSK skipper Gaikwad after the game.

“I was astonished to learn this two days ago. I believe he has given it to the ideal individual. Ruturaj is very cool and collected, much like Dhoni, according to Dube.
I’ve played under him previously, so it’s quite enjoyable. I am aware of his demeanour, expectations from me, and sort of captain he is, “Dube said to JioCinema.

Gaikwad, the team’s recently named captain, said he doesn’t feel under pressure to lead.
“I’ve never felt like being a captain is more pressure than I enjoy.” I never felt under pressure; I knew how to manage it, and of course, I had Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai. All of the players on our team, including Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane), are natural stroke producers, in my opinion. Each person is aware of their tasks and which bowlers to challenge. Clarity about roles is quite beneficial. In a post-match presentation, Gaikwad said, “Two or three things to work on. Everyone batted well, but I think it would have been even easier if someone from the top three batted till the 15th over.”
