Shubman Gill is ‘Under the Weather’ and being closely watched by the BCCI medical team

According to reports from the camp, Shubman Gill is “under the weather” and missed India’s training session on Thursday in Chennai. A spokeswoman for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) noted that the medical staff is keenly monitoring the star opener’s development.

“He’s not feeling well, and the medical staff is keeping a tight eye on him. He has to get well quickly, we hope, the BCCI representative said.

Regarding Gill’s involvement in Sunday’s 2023 World Cup match between India and Australia, there is currently no information available. More information from the medical team, the statement said, would aid in gaining clarification.

The statement continues, “We will have to wait on more updates from the medical team.”

The 24-year-old Gill has seldom skipped a practice session in the past, whether it was elective or required, so his absence on Thursday did draw some attention. Gill was the only one absent despite the fact that it was still advertised as a “optional session” at the team camp.

Will Ishan Kishan debut?

In ODIs, Gill has been excellent for India at the top of the order, thus his absence from the multi-nation event’s first match might have an impact on India’s preparations. The elegant right-hander has played in 1230 ODIs so far this year and has performed well in recent appearances in the Asia Cup and the ODI series against Australia.

India may ask Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul to begin the batting alongside Rohit Sharma if he is unable to recuperate in time. While Kishan could be the preferable option, KL is probably going to keep his middle-order slot, where he has been quite reliable for India.

Since Kishan didn’t have a lengthy session in the sun but was one of the first few batters to take a hit, there weren’t many lessons learned in this area from India’s net session. When the squad comes together for another training session today, more information on Gill and India’s opener for the tournament’s first match should become available.

A team member or member of the support staff is probably going to speak to the media and provide a much-needed update on Gill and the team’s preparations for the significant match on Sunday.
