Sourav Ganguly believes that ‘Young Captain’ Rishabh Pant would learn with time and become better

The Delhi Capitals overcame the Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday night to maintain their mathematical chances of making it to the IPL 2024 playoffs, but they still need a number of other outcomes to go their way in order to finish in the top four.

With regular captain Rishabh Pant back in charge after missing the whole season due to injuries sustained in a terrifying automobile accident, DC has won seven games and lost as many.

Pant is an “instinctual captain,” according to DC Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly, who believes he will improve with time.

Pant is a young captain; Ganguly said on JioCinema, “He’ll learn with time.” “We had some worries throughout the winter, but we were encouraged by his comeback from injury to play the whole season. Indian athletes are essential, particularly now that there are ten clubs in the IPL. The fact that he came back to play so well for a whole season makes me extremely thrilled for him.

“I send him my best wishes for whatever comes next. He’ll improve as a captain with time. He is an instinctive captain, making choices on the fly, but no one is a great captain from the start. He’ll improve with time,” he continued.

Mukesh Kumar was selected by Ganguly as DC’s top bowler of the year. In ten games, the right-arm bowler claimed 17 wickets at an economy of 10.36 and an average of 21.36.

“This season, Mukesh has been our finest bowler. Whether it’s the opening or last over, he bowls all the tough overs. This season, there hasn’t been a single game when we haven’t needed his bowling at the end. He has constantly performed there, even though we knew that giving up sixes would result in additional defeats. This season, our Indian bowlers have excelled,” he said.

One of DC’s two main advantages is the rise of young hitters Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs.

While Fraser-McGurk had explosive starts at the top of the order, Stubbs showed that he was capable of going toe-to-toe in the long overs, usually adding the final touches to the innings.

“At 22 and 23, respectively, both Fraser-McGurk and Stubbs are extremely young players,” said Ganguly. Both players participated in their maiden IPL season this year, and they both showed remarkable growth. Before now, I hadn’t seen much of Jake, but I had seen Stubbs. Both players have made significant progress, and because of the slow wicket and spinning ball, it is difficult to locate foreign players in the middle order under these circumstances. Stubbs has been helpful to us because he plays spin really effectively.
