Varane farewells faltering Manchester United

After spending three years at Old Trafford, Raphael Varane revealed on Tuesday that he would depart Manchester United at the conclusion of the current campaign when his contract ends.

The 31-year-old former France defender joined the team in 2021 for an estimated £34 million ($43 million), moving from Real Madrid. In 93 games, he has scored twice. He was a member of the group that took home the 2023 League Cup, the club’s first trophy in six years. However, United’s season has been a complete disaster, as they are now in ninth position in the Premier League after 14 losses.

After losing to Chelsea 3-4 on April 4, Varane, whose career at United has been plagued by injury, has not been on the field. “As a Manchester United player, my first visit to Old Trafford was incredible; the atmosphere was incredible.” I became enamored with the team and its supporters. Varane said on social media, “You have to play for Manchester United to understand what that represents.”

“Even though we had a challenging season, I have a lot of optimism for the future. The 2018 World Cup champion continued, “The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy.”
