Twitter erupted with the dismissals of Kohli, Rohit, and Pujara as the WTC matchup against Australia

On Day 2 of the ICC World Test Championship final at The Oval, after star hitters Steve Smith and Travis Head led Australia to a sizable first innings total, Team India’s captain Pat Cummins masterminded a dramatic batting collapse, reducing Rohit Sharma’s men to 71-4. Australia scored first in the first innings thanks to the bowling of the Baggy Greens, led by captain Cummins, who defeated Indian skipper Rohit.

Following Rohit’s exit, bowler Scott Boland completely destroyed Shubman Gill in the eighth over. The in-form hitter had to decide whether to play Boland’s ferocious delivery or not, leaving Gill indecisive. The same dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara was delivered by seamer Cameron Green after speedster Boland had cleaned up Gill. Pujara and Gill were both bowled without making a stroke.

Virat Kohli, who came at The Oval after recovering his best form in the WTC, had a lot riding on him with three of India’s top hitters returning in the lineup. When India last faced Australia in the present World Test Championship, the 34-year-old smashed a magnificent century. However, Kohli displayed a rare batting error as the former captain of India was removed for a low score. Twitter was outraged as a result of India’s top order’s lacklustre performance against Australia in the WTC final.

The middle-order batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja offered some steadiness with their stroke-filled performances during the summit match but India’s top-order faltered. Jadeja was two runs shy of a half-century while Rahane was still undefeated at 29 off 71 balls. In the closing session of Day 2, the seasoned all-rounder was removed for 48 off 51 balls. India is 318 runs behind Australia in the first innings, and Rohit’s team has lost five wickets. On Day 2 of the WTC final at The Oval, pacers Mitchell Starc, Cummins, Boland, Green, and Nathan Lyon shared five wickets.
