NEW DELHI: On the first day of the second Test match between India and England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s undefeated century of 179* proved to be the saviour for the hosts.

On his YouTube channel, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra praised Jaiswal’s performance, saying, “Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat produced the most fantastic performance.” How well the child batted. He thought highly of James Anderson’s bowling.”
Jaiswal’s astounding fifty-to-seventy conversion rate was also praised by Chopra.
“In the first over, he struck two fours when the spin started. He then demonstrated why this player is so unique. He is now even better than Sir Don Bradman in terms of turning fifty-fives into hundreds for players with ten or more centuries in first-class cricket, Chopra said.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar praised Jaiswal’s composed demeanor facing Anderson, saying, “It wasn’t like Jimmy Anderson didn’t bowl much, he bowled a lot.” I don’t believe Jaiswal crossed any boundaries against him. That demonstrates maturity.”
In expressing his appreciation for Colors, former India spinner Pragyan Ojha praised Jaiswal’s attitude, shot choice, and batting style, saying, “Other than that, the mindset he showed and the flow with which he batted, he played on merit and showed today why he has such good numbers and why he has such a good conversion rate.”
Outside of India, former England captain Alastair Cook praised Jaiswal, describing him as “absolutely outstanding.”
Cook highlighted, “He’s delivered when his side needed it,” in a BBC interview. It was a display of ability and maturity above his 22 years of age.”
In addition to saving India from certain doom, Jaiswal’s remarkable century demonstrated his capacity to withstand pressure and outclass the opponents.

All eyes will be on Jaiswal to maintain his excellent form and lead India to a commanding lead over England as the second Test goes on.
