Dhruv Jurel Is Highly Acclaimed by Sunil Gavaskar: “Another MS Dhoni in the Making”

After hitting his first fifty in a Test match, Dhruv Jurel was likened to Mahendra Singh Dhoni by cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar.

Day three of the fourth Test of the five-match series began on Sunday at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. During the commentary, Gavaskar said that Jurel is another MS Dhoni waiting to happen.

“He has batted brilliantly, of course, but he has also excelled at keeping wicket and working behind the wickets. I think he has the potential to be another MS Dhoni based only on his understanding of the game. I am aware that there will never be another MSD, but you are aware of his mentality—MSD was there from the beginning. Jurel is also aware of the game. Cricketer with street smarts, Gavaskar said during commentary.

Though IKndai trailed England by 46 runs after being bowled out for 307 in their first innings, Dhruv Jurel made a valiant effort to get his first Test century before being removed for 90.

India currently trail the visitors by 134 runs after an unbroken partnership of 42 between Dhruv Jurel, 30, and Kuldeep Yadav, 17.

After holding England at bay throughout the last session of the second day’s evening, Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav (28), held them at bay for the most of the opening session on the third day.

After the hosts had lost a number of players from their batting lineup without making any major contributions on day 2, Jurel and Kuldeep combined to score 76 crucial runs for the ninth wicket in 202 deliveries, allaying Indian fears.

When the Indian batter realized he was out of partners, Jurel launched a counterattack. After hitting four sixes and six fours in his knock, the right-hand hitter was bowled by Tom Hartley (3-68), which prevented him from reaching a hundred.

India leads the five-match series 2-1.
