Uttar Pradesh: Mulayam Singh’s statue was taken down after receiving notification from the civic body

According to authorities, a six-foot-tall statue of late Samajwadi Party (SP) patron Mulayam Singh Yadav that was purportedly built at the party headquarters here without permission was taken down after receiving a warning from the Nagar Palika Parishad.

District president Virendra Yadav placed the monument on a podium at the SP office next to the Nagar Palika Parishad office.

On September 23, the city board sent Yadav a notice over the monument and also posted it outside the SP headquarters. The warning said that the party had 24 hours to remove the statue or else it would be subject to punishment.

Yadav steadfastly refused to respond to questions about the situation, but SP district vice president Alaknkar Singh said that party members had raised Rs 10 lakh and had the monument constructed.

“After putting pressure on us, the administration had it removed. On September 23, when the notification was published, we removed the monument by ourselves, he said.According to Vinod Kumar Solanki, Executive Officer of Nagar Palika Parishad, the SP office was established by uniting eight stores that were given to them by the local government.

There was a room and a hall built without authority. Without authorization, a statue cannot be erected, according to Solanki’s notification.

Later, he claimed that the statue had been taken down.
