A Bengaluru man lost Rs 70 Lakh via gambling; here’s how he reconciled with his irate family

Unusual circumstances led to the reunion of a Bengaluru software engineer with his family after 7 months of therapy. He sought counseling for his online rummy addiction, which cost him Rs 70 lakh. His wife and two kids made the decision to leave him at this point. Last Tuesday, the guy, a resident of CV Raman Nagar, was reunited with his family.

In an interview with The Times of India, women’s hotline officer Rani Shetty stated, “In October, she was stunned to learn that her husband had lost Rs 70 lakh from their funds to online gambling. It was the turning moment for her, and she headed to her mother’s house with her kids. She sought a lawyer in order to address the situation legally.

He started betting on local cricket games, and that’s when the addiction started. After a few months, however, that habit developed into an addiction. He also started working for an IT company in Bengaluru at this time. In 2014, he wed, and two years later, he became a parent. The man’s wife unintentionally learned about his addiction in 2022.

Even though the representative of the women’s hotline attempted to resolve the issues, nothing was accomplished. The wife detailed the many financial hardships and mental adversities she and her children were facing. The guy was then asked to go to the neighborhood police station.

“The husband finally declared himself free of online gambling addiction as he walked into my office this week, hand in hand with his wife,” Shetty said. “The wife was extremely happy about his improvement over the seven months.”

The individual received de-addiction treatment in NIMHANS in addition to counseling.
