After eating Subway topped with white powder, a man in the US lost feeling in his lips

Choosing a 6-inch sandwich seems like a healthier alternative than other easily accessible fast-food choices. For individuals who are mindful of their nutritional choices, the possibility to customize their own sub with healthier menu selections plus the benefit of a moderately sized lunch make it an enticing alternative. But in a peculiar event that occurred at a Subway restaurant in the American city of Reno, a patron claimed to have felt uncomfortable after eating a sandwich that had what he believed to be a mysterious white powder dusted on it. The event happened in the middle of December, which is when the worried customer called the local health authorities.

According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, which cited information from the Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH), the Subway patron said that after eating the sandwich, he felt numbness in his lips. Health officials looked into the situation after the anonymous person voiced worries about the enigmatic white powder.

In response to the report, health inspectors went to the South McCarran Subway location right away. The consumer stated that his pain stemmed from the white powder on his sandwich. Management countered that it was only parmesan cheese, which is a staple of many Subway sandwiches.

The eatery had just received a fresh supply of the “parmesan oregano bread topping mix,” according to further inquiry. Inspectors were notified by the person in charge that there seemed to be more parmesan powder in this batch than normal. Inspectors were reassured by them that the restaurant intended to return the batch because of the odd ratio of cheese to seasoning.

The Subway outlet was thoroughly inspected by inspectors, who discovered no building flaws or paint flaking in the vicinity of the food preparation area that would have jeopardized the product’s safety. This eliminated any possibility that the meal included health risks.

At the time of the inspection, NNPH said in its report that it was unable to confirm the customer’s allegation. However, the Subway location refuses to comment on the situation.

The secret to making both the Parmesan Oregano Bread and the Italian Herbs and Cheese Bread at Subway is the topping, which is made of enriched wheat flour, toasted bread crumbs, garlic, spices, and Parmesan. Furthermore, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese are added to the Herbs and Cheese Bread variety.
