Remember the brave father who marked his daughter’s first period with a party? This is His Story

Jitendra Bhatt, a music instructor from Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand, has gained notoriety for his novel and forward-thinking approach to menstruation. Jitendra Bhatt made the unconventional choice to throw a special “period party” to honor his 13-year-old daughter Ragini’s first menstrual cycle rather than continuing the shame and secrecy that often accompany periods.

This unorthodox event aimed to dispel myths and encourage an accepting and open mindset regarding menstruation as a normal occurrence. Jitendra Bhatt wanted to show that menstruation should be enjoyed rather than kept a secret by hosting the “period party.”

The celebration, which was attended by Ragini’s adolescent friends and other females, sent a strong message of acceptance and empowerment. The importance of this momentous day in a young girl’s life was symbolized by guests arriving with presents of sanitary pads and chocolates.

Humans of Bombay recently published the tale of Jitendra Bhatt’s noble and forward-thinking effort, where he discussed the ideas that led to the period party. Jitendra Bhatt discussed his background and how he saw menstruation ladies being discriminated against in his household. He remembered the awful reality of his mother, aunts, and sisters having to live outside their home in squalid quarters, sometimes with cattle, when they were on their periods.

The worst part was that we were unable to approach them or even touch them. When I once approached my aunt when she was having her period, I was shouted at and showered with cow poop to make me ‘pure’ again. These were puzzling to me. The elders would always respond, “Gandi hogyi hai,” he recounted.

Young Bhatt was greatly upset by such encounters and puzzled as to why women were treated differently during this normal physiological function. He learned about menstruation in the 10th grade due to his curiosity, and the information horrified him. At the age of 16, Bhatt made a personal commitment to end the cycle of prejudice and ignorance. She was determined to confront these antiquated traditions.

Bhatt regarded the occasion as ideal to speak up and alter the narrative when his daughter Ragini turned 13 and had her first menstruation. In honor of his daughter’s transition into womanhood, he made the decision to throw a party, inviting close friends and family to share in this time of acceptance and empowerment.

People have been moved by the moving tale of Jitendra Bhatt and his spectacular “period party,” which has garnered respect and adulation from all quarters. His action is a courageous step against the long-standing social taboo against menstruation.
