“Technology, My Hair”: Sundar Pichai Describes The Evolution Of Google Over Its 20 Years

The CEO of Alphabet and Google, Sundar Pichai, celebrated his 20 years with Google on Instagram. As the head of product management and development, he started working at Google in 2004.

He has been recognized throughout the years for spearheading initiatives including the development of Gmail and Google Maps, as well as the invention of ChromeOS and Google Chrome. He is also credited with creating Google Drive. In 2015, Pichai was named CEO of Alphabet and Google by co-founder and outgoing CEO Larry Page. He was the product chief before becoming the CEO.

Pichai posted a picture of balloons spelling the number 20 on Friday, along with a picture of his two Google ID cards. “April 26, 2004 was my first day at Google,” he wrote. Since then, a lot has changed, including my hair, technology, and the quantity of individuals using our goods. The excitement I receive from working for this incredible firm hasn’t diminished. Even after 20 years, I still feel fortunate. In less than a day, his post received more than one lakh likes.

“I cannot decide on which achievement is greater, 20 years in all the technological improvements you’ve brought or the fact that you haven’t gone bald after 20 years in tech,” one Instagram user commented on it. “My role model, you are the epitome of excellence; I adore you,” stated someone else.

In addition to the congratulations, Pichai received criticism from a number of individuals for the major layoffs at Google that resulted in hundreds of job losses in recent years. Many of the laid-off employees had been with the firm for more than ten years. “Good to know you weren’t affected by the massive tech layoffs (or, as corporations like to say, “restructuring”) in recent months!” said one Instagram user, expressing this view. “And all of a sudden you receive a termination letter, how will you feel?” inquired another individual. From where will you begin? once more.

After graduating from IIT Kharagpur with a degree in metallurgical engineering, Pichai attended Stanford University to pursue an MS in material science and engineering. Later on, he graduated with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, where he was named a Palmer Scholar and a Siebel Scholar. The Indian government awarded him the third-highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan, in the trade and industry category in 2022.
