The internet reacts to Kate Middleton’s apology for the “photoshopped” image with “royal” memes

The Princess of Wales apologized on social media on Monday after admitting that she had altered an official photograph that Kensington Palace had made public. Due to violations of their policies regarding manipulated content, major news agencies such as AFP, Reuters, and Associated Press withdrew the Mother’s Day portrait that featured a smiling Kate Middleton casually seated in a garden chair with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

After Middleton had recent stomach surgery, there was a lot of conjecture about her location. The effort to allay those fears proved to be a stunning mistake. The editor apologized to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official account by Monday morning as a result of the backlash after the photo’s distribution.

Like a lot of amateur photographers, I sometimes dabble with editing. I wanted to apologize for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from our sharing of the family picture yesterday. I really hope that Mother’s Day was enjoyed by everyone who participated. C,” it said.

Unexpectedly, the apology—signed by Catherine, Princess of Wales, as “C”—said that Middleton had altered the photo, deviating from the carefully manicured portrait of the royal family.

Still, not everyone found the apology to be convincing. Skepticism erupted on social media, with one user commenting, “I find it hard to believe that the most well-known royal family in the world, along with the potential queen, played around with Photoshop and released a family photo (intended to silence rumors about her whereabouts) without any members of the ranks checking it out.” Nope. Not persuaded.

One more person said, “This is really not being accepted at all. I honestly worry for the welfare and safety of this lady.

Memes quickly followed, expressing a general decline in trust as well as the incredulity surrounding Kate’s situation.

The picture itself raised eyebrows for some who were confused by all the commotion. Everyone looked like they were wearing a Snapchat filter since they were all grinning so much. There were doubts about the picture’s veracity since Middleton, who was sitting in the center, seemed disproportionately large. The differences were obvious, ranging from strange elements like Middleton’s outfit’s lighter zip to mismatched hands.

The alterations were so obvious that Kensington Palace failed to provide an adequate explanation, prompting the British Press Association to remove the picture. The palace quickly released a statement in an effort to allay the growing worries.

The public is still dubious as a result of the Royal Palace’s efforts to contain the damage. Before they provide anything believable, how many more turns will they have to take? Time will tell.
