AI for Sustainable Cities Center at IIT Kanpur Appoints Karuna Gopal Vartakavi as Advisor

IIT Kanpur’s Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainable Cities has extended an invitation to Karuna Gopal Vartakavi, a BJP politician and president of the Hyderabad-based Foundation for Futuristic Cities, to serve as an advisor. A consortium of academic institutions such as Princeton University (USA), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), IIIT Delhi, IIIT Hyderabad, and industry giants like SAIL and Adani Total Gas Ltd., as well as think tanks like eGov Foundation and WRI India, is spearheading the initiative.

The letter of invitation read: “it is our pleasure to invite you as an advisor for the Center of Excellence in AI for Sustainable Cities, Given your expertise in urban transformation, your participation in the consortium will supplement your knowledge and enhance the capacity of real-life solutions.”

Internationally, Karuna Gopal has been at the forefront of futuristic development. The governments of fourteen countries asked her to improve their efforts at smart development.

Her contribution to the creation of India’s ‘100 Smart Cities Mission’ was part of the INDIA TECHNOLOGY Roadmap 2047.

She formerly worked for the World Bank, DFID (UK’s Department for International Development), USAID (US Agency for International Development), and ADB (Asian Development Bank) as an urban expert.
