Atishi was denied permission by the Tihar authorities to see Arvind Kejriwal in prison. Singh Sanjay

NEW DELHI: AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said on Wednesday that the Tihar administration prevented Delhi minister Atishi from seeing Arvind Kejriwal because he was afraid the chief minister may not be permitted to see anybody behind bars.

However, two petitions for visits with Kejriwal were submitted and authorized, according to a senior prison official.

“The first meeting was scheduled for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., and everything went according to plan.

The other meeting is scheduled on April 29. A Tihar prison officer said, “We have to make the necessary security arrangements between the two dates,” and added that the individual in question had been notified.
In a news conference, Singh clarified, however, that Atishi had applied for the meeting on Tuesday in accordance with all regulations and was scheduled to see Kejriwal with Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

However, the meeting was abruptly called off. Along with Bharadwaj, Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak went to visit the chief minister on Wednesday morning, but he was also denied permission to do so. Singh said that only Bharadwaj was permitted.

“You [the Tihar prison officials] canceled the chief minister’s meeting with the education minister and an MP from Delhi today, and you could stop him from seeing his wife tomorrow. On Thursday, I shall write the LG and the PM to express my disapproval of this,” Singh said.

Despite the AAP official’s assertion that all required protocols had been followed, the meetings were canceled. He continued by saying that Kejriwal’s appointment with him had been canceled earlier by the prison administration.
In contrast, Bharadwaj said in a statement that he spoke with the chief minister for around thirty minutes when he was detained. “The chief minister only emphasized that Delhiites need not be concerned about him, as he is resilient and will persist in his battle,” the man said.
