Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar ‘Takes Back’ Remark on Population Control; BJP Says Resign, Don’t Say Sorry

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, expressed regret for his remarks about population control and that he would retract them if they were misconstrued.

On Wednesday, Bihar Chief Minister Kumar said that the state is in the forefront of women’s development and then remarked, “I apologise for my statement, take back my statement if it has sent the wrong message.”

Speaking on Tuesday on the need of education for women in terms of population control, Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar offered a contentious explanation of how an educated woman may prevent her husband from being restrained during a sexual encounter.

Meanwhile, BJP MLAs demonstrating outside the Bihar Vidhan Sabha said that they preferred Nitish Kumar’s resignation than his apologies. Rekha Sharma, the head of NCW, said that the Speaker of Bihar should take action and remove the remark rather than only apologizing.

Following his remark on Tuesday, the opposition BJP attacked Kumar, causing a stir. In his speech, Kumar emphasized the need of education for women in order to regulate the population and gave a clear explanation of how an educated woman might constrain her husband during sex.

More births were caused by the husband’s actions. But a lady who has received education understands how to restrict him. This explains why there are fewer births overall,” he said in a homey manner. You journalists are also well-versed in it. The fertility rate was 4.3 before, but it is now 2.9. And we’ll get to two shortly,” he said.

Kumar was accused by the opposition BJP of “bringing shame” to the ladies of the state by going into great detail about the reproduction process.
