For the convicts’ comfort, the zoo provides water sprinklers and refrigerators

Patna: Animals, birds, and reptiles are also being impacted by the heatwave, in addition to people. In order to give some respite to the silent creatures, the Patna Zoo management has begun putting special measures in place, including installing air conditioners, coolers, and water sprinklers in their cages.

Even though they are uncommon in the summer, visitors to the zoo may see the creatures using their few resources to stay cool within their enclosures.

Elephants spritz themselves with water using their trunks, while tigers and rhinos take cover in bodies of water. Conversely, Emu is standing straight under a water sprinkler.

According to Satyajeet Kumar, director of the zoo, the administration begins summer preparations in March, concentrating on the needs of the animals in terms of food, relaxation, and cleanliness, and formulating plans according to species. “Khus carpets are placed on the sides of the cages and wet down to let cold air in. We keep the mats moist all morning. At their resting locations, tigers, lions, panthers, and other such creatures have springs, water holes, coolers, and open vents, the expert notes.

Since snakes are cold-blooded reptiles, Kumar continues, they are unable to control their body temperature.

On the other hand, we have installed air conditioners for several snakes, such as the python (ajgar). There is a green net covering three-fourths of the bird cages. The chimpanzee’s night residence has an open roof, and big fans have been put inside, adds Kumar. “The bird cages are also outfitted with foggers.”
According to range officer Anand Kumar, they are feeding the animals a variety of foods.
