2 IndiGo Pilots’ Flying Licences Are Suspended By The DGCA Due To Safety Norm Violations

According to a senior official, two IndiGo pilots’ flying privileges have been banned by the aviation safety regulator DGCA because they violated safety regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) when landing at the Ahmedabad airport last month.

According to the official, the co-pilot’s and pilot-in-command’s flying licenses have both been suspended for one month and three months, respectively.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) opened an investigation into an IndiGo aircraft that had a tail strike while landing at the Ahmedabad airport on June 15 while flying a route between Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.

In addition, it had mandated that the two pilots be grounded until the incident’s inquiry was finished.

“On June 15, 2023, an Airbus 321 aircraft had a tail impact while attempting to land in Ahmedabad. The crew performed the landing in violation of existing SOPs, according to the DGCA inquiry, the official said on Wednesday.

The DGCA therefore sent a show cause notice to both crew members, he said.

The DGCA official said, “After reviewing their responses and the pertinent facts of the case, the licence of the PIC has been suspended for a period of 3 months and that of the co-pilot for a period of 1 month for violation of the provisions of the relevant Civil Aviation requirements and SOPs.”
