According to the Karnataka government, Dell is mulling a new investment in Bengaluru

The Texas-based technology firm Dell is thinking about making a new investment in its Bengaluru research and development (R&D) center in an effort to further boost its presence in Karnataka, according to a statement released on Saturday.

According to the state’s Large and Medium Industries Ministry, the Dell team, which included Michael Dundas of Global Manufacturing Operations and Technology, Alan Richey, Senior Vice President, Legal, and Tabrez Ahmad, Director, Asia Pacific and Japan, Government Affairs and Public Policy, met with Karnataka Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Minister M.B. Patil on Friday in Austin.

In order to circumvent import limitations on Special Economic Zone (SEZ) activities and improve cost sustainability for Dell’s development in India, the firm has requested assistance from the Karnataka government.

Dell also outlined its demands for the state’s ESDM ecosystem participants and suppliers.

The $50 billion corporation already has a well-known research and development facility in Bengaluru.

Around 25 manufacturing sites are operated by Dell globally, with 14 of them facilities devoted to research and development.

To draw investments into the state, the Karnataka business delegation is traveling to other US states. The minister is being accompanied by Dr. S. Selvakumar, principal secretary for commerce and industries, as well as Gunjan Krishna, director of industries and commerce and commissioner for industrial development.

The group also visited with Global Foundries (GF), a top manufacturer of semiconductors, which indicated interest in expanding its Bengaluru staff by 200 skilled personnel.

Patil pledged to increase government funding in this area and would also aid Global Foundries in building relationships with clients and partners. The $30 billion Global Foundries has also indicated interest in establishing and growing its Aerospace and Defence (A&D) presence in Karnataka, with plans for more engagement to build an all-encompassing corporate strategy.

A business roundtable held by the US-India Chamber of Commerce and AKKA and put on by TiE Austin and the Austin Chamber of Commerce were also attended by the delegation led by Patil. Around 60 entrepreneurs, including top VPs and CEOs, attended the discussion.
