“After wide body order, IndiGo says that Ahmedabad to Amsterdam, Surat to Seoul, Patna to Paris; nonstops all over globe from India.”

NEW DELHI: “Amsterdam to Ahmedabad.” Seoul to Surat. Paris to Patna Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, used these rhymes to show how founder Rahul Bhatia saw the airline’s network developing in the next few years, only one day after the airline placed an order for thirty wide-body Airbus A350s with the option to place another seventy orders.

These new wide-body aircraft will really be the next development in our goal to dominate the aviation industry worldwide.

We may expand on our Indian hubs and establish continuous connections between our Indian strongholds in metropolises and locations around the world. Elbers said in an email to staff on Friday, “but also connecting and supporting the nation by making India an aviation hub and power house.”
With a domestic market share of over 60%, IndiGo is the biggest airline in India. It carried over 10 crore people on flights last year and has 350 aircraft in service. Over 1,000 A320 family single-aisle aircraft are still on order and won’t be delivered until the middle of the 2030s. It will have its own wide bodies operating to remote parts of the world from India beginning in 2027, with an order for up to 100 A350s.
“The amazing adventure and tale of IndiGo are now being written into a brand-new, fantastic chapter. Planes and a following network will further solidify the 2030 trajectory, which aims to double in size by the end of this decade. This will further help us to fulfill our mission of “giving wings to nation by connecting people and aspirations.” We are expanding our reach outside the Indian market, where we have a very strong base. It’s IndiGo’s and India’s time now! Our worldwide network has grown considerably in the recent past. Elbers said that the (Airbus A321) XLR aircraft will let the current range be extended to certain regions of Europe and Asia.

IndiGo has wet-leased (hired with operational crew) two B777s from Turkish Airlines to run a daily route between Delhi/Mumbai and Istanbul, dipping its toe into the wide-body market. Following that experience, it finally placed an order for its own wide bodies, the delivery of which is scheduled to begin in 2027, the year IndiGo turns 21. According to the airline, the decision to acquire an additional 70 A350s would be made “at its discretion, for possible future needs under certain conditions.”
