AMD Introduces AI Chipset To Challenge Intel in Laptops and Desktops: Complete Details

(Reuters) –On Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices, a chip manufacturer hoping to increase its portion of the lucrative “AI PC” market, revealed a new line of chips for business laptops and desktops with artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to a press release from AMD, these processors should be accessible on platforms from HP and Lenovo beginning in the second quarter of 2024.

Large-language models and applications driven by AI may be operated directly on AI-enabled PCs rather than being on the cloud.

AMD said that its Ryzen PRO 8000 Series was designed for business customers’ desktop computers, while its most recent Ryzen PRO 8040 Series was created for “business laptops and mobile workstations”.

In early trade, its shares had increased by almost 2%.

Experts believe that the release of AI PCs will lead to a potential rebound in the PC industry as users upgrade to these systems with enhanced capabilities.

A massive need for cutting-edge semiconductors that can be utilized to create and execute sophisticated AI algorithms has resulted from the introduction of generative AI technology.

AMD is up against fierce competition in the AI PC market from Intel and Nvidia, the industry leader in AI chips and a recognized leader in graphics processing units (GPUs).

In January, AMD unveiled the Ryzen 8000G Series of desktop processors, designed to tackle the demanding workloads associated with AI-driven applications.

The same day, Nvidia announced the debut of its own AI PC processors, the “GeForce RTX SUPER” desktop GPUs, and said that laptops using its technology will be available from Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung.

Additionally, Intel said in January that it anticipates “shipping approximately 40 million AI PCs in 2024 alone”.
