Apple’s Vision Pro Is Not “Relevant” For Subscribers, According to Netflix CEO: This Is Why

The Apple Vision Pro is scheduled to be on sale in the US on February 2 and is now available for pre-order. It’s reasonable to conclude that the mixed reality headset has done rather well; according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has already sold around 1.8 lakh of them.

Nevertheless, it seems that Netflix may not be able to take the Vision Pro seriously enough to develop a specific app for it given this quantity, the specialized market, and the target demographic as a whole. Yes, there was no official Netflix app available for the Vision Pro at launch, and if the CEO of the firm is to be believed, there is no indication that the streaming behemoth would release one anytime soon. As a result, consumers could have to watch it via their web browser.

In an interview with Stratechery’s Daily Update podcast, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters made the same claim, saying that the company decided against launching a dedicated app because it believes that the $3,499 headset isn’t just worth it for many people at this time, “not by any unwillingness or lack of desire.”

According to Peters, “we have to exercise caution to ensure that we’re not investing in areas that are not really yielding a return.” He said, “I would say we’ll see where things go with Vision Pro.”

He is certain that the experience itself won’t be improved by having a special app for the Vision Pro. “We always have conversations with Apple to try and resolve that, but at this point, the device is so low-end that it’s not really that important to the majority of our members,” the guy said.

Given that the headgear is compatible with Apple, it’s feasible that Netflix’s opinion may eventually alter. “Netflix and Apple have been working together for a long time, and we’ve always actively discussed how we might support one another. There are moments when we discover a large overlap. We are able to move really fast. Occasionally, it takes a little bit longer,” Peters said.
