August bank holidays: lenders will be closed on 14 days this month; see full list

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar indicates that banks would be closed for 14 days in August 2023, including Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays.

In August, there will be eight state-specific holidays. In a few states, public and commercial banks would be closed on special days like Tendong Lho Rum Faat, the Parsi New Year, Onam, Raksha Bandhan, and others.

It is advisable that anybody who has to visit the bank urgently be aware of the specified holidays. However, nationwide access to online banking will be available every day.

The list of bank holidays for August 2023 is as follows:

First Sunday of August is on August 6.

Tendong Lho Rum Faat on August 8 (Gangtok banks will stay closed because to Tendong Lho Rum Faat)

Second Saturday of the month is August 12th.

Second Sunday of the month is August 13th.

Independence Day is celebrated on August 15; for this reason, banks will be closed in the following cities: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad – Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad – Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata

On August 16th, banks will be closed in Belapur, Mumbai, and Nagpur in observance of the Parsi New Year.

The banks in Guwahati will stay closed on August 18 in observance of Srimanta Sankardeva’s day.

The third Sunday of August.

Fourth Saturday of the month is on August 26.

Fourth Sunday of the month is on August 27.

First Onam is celebrated on August 28. Banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed during this time.

On August 29th, banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed in observance of Thiruvonam.

Raksha Bandhan, which falls on August 30. Jaipur and Srinagar banks would be closed on that day.

Raksha Bandhan, Sri Narayana Guru Jayanthi, and Pang-Lhabsol are all celebrated on August 31. As a result, banks will be closed in Gangtok, Dehradun, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Three categories—Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts—comprise all bank holidays.
