By late 2025, Toyota’s First Electric SUV Will Be Available in India

Like its Maruti rival, Toyota is getting ready to launch its much-awaited midsize electric SUV in the Indian market.

The Japanese carmaker, who teased us with the Urban SUV concept last year, now says that its electric wonder will debut six months after Maruti’s planned March 2025 introduction.

According to Autocar, enthusiastic purchasers could anticipate seeing the production model arrive in Indian showrooms in September or October of 2025.

With dimensions of 4,300 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, Maruti’s eVX and Toyota’s Urban SUV concept are quite comparable. Furthermore, it is expected that both versions will have the same 2,700mm wheelbase, guaranteeing a dependable but recognizable look.

Drawing inspiration from its modern EV portfolio, which includes the bZ small SUV concept, the Urban SUV has sharp edges and unique C-shaped LED daytime running lights. Like its Maruti cousin, the SUV has a classic upright profile thanks to its flared wheel arches and rugged appeal. In addition, the back end has a lot in common with the eVX, including a similar door and glass house design.

Although Toyota hasn’t revealed many inside specifics, we can anticipate a smooth and seamless combination of comfort and technology, matching the benchmarks established by the eVX. Thanks to its electric skateboard chassis, the Urban SUV boasts a spacious and adaptable cabin that is fully equipped with cutting-edge safety technologies and creature comforts.

Toyota’s electric vehicle will use the 27PL skateboard platform, which is produced domestically at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, for both local and international markets. This approach is similar to Maruti’s.

Customers may expect two battery pack choices: a 60kWh model with an around 550km range, which is shown with the eVX concept, and a base model with a 48kWh smaller battery pack that has a roughly 400km range. Additionally, Toyota seems to be considering front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive for a few regions.

Toyota’s midsize electric SUV will face fierce competition when it first launches from competitors like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti eVX, its brother.
