On Saturday, August 5, the cost of gasoline and diesel remained the same in all major Indian cities, including New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. Petrol costs Rs 96.72 per litre in Delhi, the capital of India, while diesel costs Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol is still the most expensive in Mumbai, where it costs Rs 106.31 a litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 94.27.

Diesel costs Rs 94.33 per liter and gasoline costs Rs 102.73 per liter in Chennai. Diesel costs Rs 92.76 and gasoline Rs 106.03 per litre in Kolkata, respectively.

Among other cities, the price of gasoline in Ghaziabad was Rs 96.58 per litre and the price of diesel was Rs 89.75 per litre. Petrol cost Rs 107.24 per liter in Patna, the capital of Bihar, while diesel cost Rs 94.04 per liter. Diesel cost Rs 90.05 per liter in Gurugram, Haryana, compared to petrol’s Rs 97.18 per litre.

Prices for gasoline and diesel are set in India by oil marketing companies (OMCs) such Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. Rates are set daily, according on the global price of crude oil, and this is done on an ongoing basis.

After major producers Saudi Arabia and Russia extended production restrictions through September, adding to fears about undersupply, oil prices increased by more than a dollar a barrel on Friday to mark a sixth straight week of gains, according to Reuters.

The price of Brent oil futures increased by $1.10, or 1.3%, to close at $86.24 a barrel, while the price of US West Texas Intermediate crude increased by $1.27, or 1.6%, to finish at $82.82 per barrel. On Friday, both benchmarks reached their highest points since the middle of April.
