Diesel and Petrol New Prices for October 6: Review Local Fuel Prices

With a few small adjustments, Indian oil firms maintained the price of gasoline and diesel on Friday, October 6, almost constant throughout all major cities. However, because of value-added tax (VAT), freight costs, municipal taxes, etc., they differ from state to state.

The cost of gasoline has decreased by 57 paise in Maharashtra. Here, the cost of fuel has decreased by 55 pesos. In West Bengal, gasoline has decreased in price by 48 pesos and diesel by 45 pesos. In Uttar Pradesh, the cost of gasoline and diesel has decreased by 27 pence. In parallel, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana seem to have seen a modest rise in the cost of gasoline and diesel.

At the moment, a litre of gasoline costs Rs 96.72 in Delhi, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 89.62. While in Mumbai, a litre of gasoline costs Rs 106.31 and a litre of diesel costs Rs 94.27. Diesel costs Rs 92.76 and gasoline Rs 106.03 per litre in Kolkata, respectively. On the other side, in Chennai, gasoline costs Rs 102.63 and diesel Rs 94.24 a litre.

Prices for gasoline and diesel are set in India by oil marketing companies (OMCs) such Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. Rates are set daily, according on the global price of crude oil, and this is done on an ongoing basis.

Why do gas prices differ across states?

At six in the morning on each day, the rates—new or unchanged—are declared. However, they differ from one state to the next owing to factors like Value Added Tax (VAT), freight costs, municipal taxes, etc.
