Elon Musk’s X Might Consider Asking a Lot of Money for the Sale of Old Twitter Handles: Report

Elon Musk has changed X (previously Twitter) for the better. In addition to a makeover, the platform has undergone fundamental feature changes, such as the introduction of blue checkmarks, which are mostly attributable to X Premium (previously Twitter Blue). The sale of outdated, inactive X handles is apparently going to be the platform’s next feature.

According to a Forbes story, X’s team has begun developing a “marketplace” where users’ usernames would be available for purchase. The article goes on to say that X went above and above, even claiming to have received as much as $50,000 in payments for possible username purchases from customers.

These facts came from “active X employees and noted that the company recently made updates to its @handle guidelines, process, and fees,” according to a number of emails that Forbes was able to see. Notably, Elon Musk has been considering putting this scheme into action for some time.

Musk had said in November 2022, just after purchasing X for $44 billion, that he intended to “free them up next month” and acknowledged that “bots and trolls” had taken over numerous handles. The next month, as a consequence, Twitter staff members at the time decided to take the initiative and intend to release over 1.5 billion usernames. X began purging dormant accounts from the site later in May.

Although it’s unclear whether or when this would be put into practice, it may be helpful for users to pay to access a certain username.
