Energy companies collaborate to develop an EV transaction network akin to the UPI

The Unified Energy Interface (UEI), an open energy network that resembles the unified payments interface (UPI) but is designed for electric vehicle charging, is the result of the collaboration of at least 20 energy businesses, according to a statement released by the companies on Friday.

According to Akhil Jayaprakash, co-founder of Pulse Energy, an alliance member, the UEI would be connected to UPI to provide users with payment choices via various bank accounts.

The Department of Science and Technology recommends using the UEI as an interoperability standard. By collaborating with energy distribution companies (Discoms), the alliance will help solve interoperability difficulties related to grid demand response and EV charging. Its goal is to enable smooth payment and transaction interoperability inside EV charging networks.

Companies like ChargeZone, Pulse Energy, Kazam, Sheru, Trinity, and Turbo are among the alliance’s members. According to Raj Kumar, Executive Director of Trinity, “it’s critical to ensure that EV drivers can easily access charging infrastructure as the transportation sector shifts towards greater electrification.”

Prominent academic institutions and think tanks focused on public policy, such as the World Resources Institute and the Rocky Mountain Institute, have also joined the partnership as advisors to further the project.
