First Impressions of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra: Competitors Beware!

Oppo hasn’t released a flagship X-series device with a camera since the Find X2, which arrived in India in 2020. Although Oppo has consistently launched its X series flagships in China, its N series foldables are the brand’s most recent entry into the premium Indian market. The Find N3 Flip was the most recent model, released towards the end of 2023. And now, out of the blue, Oppo extends an invitation to experience their newest and best. It’s an Oppo flagship phone with the newest hardware specs, and it goes by the name Find X7 Ultra. It even has four back cameras—two of which are periscopic telephoto cameras—which is something we haven’t seen on other high-end smartphones. After using the phone for a few days, I’m shocked that India isn’t receiving it.

Indeed, India will not be receiving the Oppo Find X7 Ultra. As of right now, it’s exclusive to China and costs CNY 5,999, or about Rs. 70,000, for the basic model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which I was given to evaluate. The phone, which retails for CNY 6,999 (about Rs. 80,000), has a maximum capacity of 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage.

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra has a really stylish appearance. It comes in three colorways: Ocean Blue, Sepia Brown, and Tailored Black. Because of the striking color contrast and high-quality finish applied by Oppo’s design team, each colorway has a distinct appearance from the others. My personal favorite is the Sepia Brown finish, which is unlike anything else that’s now offered in this market and has a tan-brown fake leather and matte-silver combination that appears opulent and upscale. The Ocean Blue finish incorporates a nautical concept with its lovely navy blue leather and stark white top half around the camera module.

I was given the review unit in Tailored Black, which has a very subtle but elegant look. The stitching on the vegan leather back, which begins below the camera module, goes right down the middle of the module and leaves a space around the Oppo logo.

The glass of the 6.82-inch AMOLED QHD+ display is curved on the left and right sides in addition to the curved frame and rear borders. The top and bottom corners of the glass are softened, which further enhances the welcoming nature of software interactions.

We have a Chinese phone running the Chinese version of Oppo’s ColorOS operating system since the phone isn’t officially available in India. It has a ton of third-party applications installed and doesn’t have any Google apps—not even the Google Play Store—pre-installed. I thus had to install the Play Store from a trusted source before downloading applications that are probably well-known to most of us.

The most advanced Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, powers this software experience. The Gen 3 has only been seen on the iQoo 12, the OnePlus 12, the Xiaomi 14, and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in India, with the exception of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Find X7 Ultra, like its predecessors in the Find X series, is primarily concerned with camera performance. This time, Oppo has opted for an updated camera configuration. The Find X7 Ultra boasts three new camera features: a 3X optical zoom periscope telephoto with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor, a second 6X optical zoom periscope telephoto with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensor, and a new 50-megapixel primary camera with a Sony LYT-900 1-inch type sensor. The Find X6 Pro is this device’s spiritual successor. Finally, the ultra-wide camera now has a 50-megapixel LYT-600 sensor. Another modification is the addition of a 32-megapixel LYT-506 sensor to the front camera. It seems that this camera is capable of handling any kind of image scenario. Oppo even states that every camera can produce 4K 60 frames per second of footage. I can’t wait to use the cameras to their fullest potential in our assessment.

Like the majority of flagships this year that focus mostly on cameras, Oppo has remained with a 5,000mAh battery. A little 100W charger from Oppo is included in the package. 50W wireless charging is also supported by the phone.

Based on the features listed above, it seems like Oppo has included everything required in an Ultra smartphone to rival models such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Giving us a Find X7 Ultra model to examine is more of an act of capability on the part of Oppo, and it looks like an intriguing smartphone with a distinctive design that would have provided much-needed competition for Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra series.

Unfortunately, Oppo has said that it has no intention of bringing this model to India, so you won’t be able to buy this phone there. In any case, we will be putting this gadget to the test over the next several days to see how it compares to the competition. Check back soon for our comprehensive review.
