First Saudia flight begins international operations at Bengaluru Airport’s Terminal 2

With the arrival of a Saudia aircraft from Jeddah earlier in the day, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday launched international flight operations from its opulent new Terminal 2 (T2), constructed at a cost of Rs 13,000 crore.

At 10.15 am, the Saudia flight SV866, carrying 212 people, touched down at the terminal.

As the plane touched down, representatives from Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) were there.

IndiGo was the first domestic airline to run an international flight from the terminal shortly after the initial arrival.

At 12.10 PM, IndiGo aircraft 6E 1167 with a destination of Colombo left from T2.

Officials from Saudia and IndiGo were present at a lamp-lighting ceremony held by BIAL to mark the milestone.

With the potential to handle over 30 foreign departures, T2, which was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11 of last year, is set to play a significant role in Bengaluru’s international air travel environment.

It would handle an extra 2.5 crore air passengers and act as the gateway for 27 airlines, including two Indian airlines and 25 foreign carriers.

With a hanging garden for the first time in Asia, the new terminal has been dubbed one of the largest in the world.

Air Akasa, Alliance Air, IndiGo, and SpiceJet are just a few of the local carriers that will fly out of Terminal 1 (T1).

Domestic operations for AirAsia, Air India, Star Air, and Vistara will also run out of T2 in addition to foreign carriers, guaranteeing a smooth journey for customers heading to and from Bengaluru.

The busiest airport in South India and one of the world’s fastest-growing airports, Bengaluru Airport, opened for business on May 24, 2008.

In 2019. Over 33 million people were sent there.
