March 8 Bank Holiday: Due to Mahashivratri, banks will be closed on Friday. More information may be found here

The nation is reminded of the nationwide bank shutdown as Indians get ready to celebrate the important Mahashivratri on March 8, 2024. Millions of people celebrate this event, which honors the union of Shiva and Shakti, with pleasure and devotion. But it’s important for those who depend on financial services to know about the planned closures and the other choices available during this time.

State-specific holidays include Mahashivratri, but national holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti all result in bank closures. This day will see bank closures in many states, including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh or Telangana. This would result in a decentralized banking schedule for the whole country.

March has other national holidays in addition to Mahashivratri, such as Holi on March 25 and Good Friday on March 29. However, the state of Bihar adds a special touch with its own state-specific festivals, such as Yaosang’s second day/holi on March 26 and 27, and Bihar Diwas on March 22.

Regular bank closures are planned on the second Saturday (March 9), the fourth Saturday (March 23), and all Sundays in March in addition to these festival-based closures. Indians may exhale with peace despite these closures since internet banking services are still available throughout the country. On certain designated occasions, conventional bank branches will be closed, but ATMs and digital services will remain open, guaranteeing that financial transactions won’t be impacted.

Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Dehradun, Hyderabad (AP and Telangana), Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar are among the cities taking part in the Mahashivratri festivities. Thiruvananthapuram is also on the list.

For those who do not know, Mahashivratri is a once-a-year occasion that usually falls in February or March. Shiva and Shakti are said to have converged on this auspicious night, signifying the merger of the masculine and feminine forces that maintain global equilibrium. Millions of Indians see Shiva and Shakti as the personification of strength, love, and unity, making Mahashivratri a very spiritual event.

Indians can easily handle temporary bank closures while using ATMs or doing online transactions, ensuring that the celebrations are joyful without causing financial hardship. Therefore, even when banks’ actual doors could shut for a time, their virtual doors stay open, guaranteeing that everyone has a smooth banking experience.
