Mumbai: BKC To Zaroli Bullet Train Construction Session Picks Up Speed

The building of a bullet train corridor from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Zaroli town on the border between Maharashtra and Gujarat is finally moving forward after several setbacks and delays.

This section of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail track spans 156 kilometers. The Mumbai to Zaroli section would have a number of intricate elevated structures, including a “21-kilometer-long tunnel, with 7 kilometers passing beneath the sea, along with 6 mountain tunnels,” an official told the Free Press Journal.

The Vaitarna, Ulhas, and Jagani rivers will be crossed by “36 crossings, featuring 11 steel and river bridges” throughout the route. The longest river bridge in the whole bullet train project will be constructed during this project, crossing the Vaitarna River. Its length will be 2.32 kilometers.

The official said, “Several important milestones have been reached, and the ongoing construction efforts are making significant strides.” The project’s purchase of land is 100% complete, providing a strong basis for development.

Furthermore, advanced phases of geotechnical studies are well underway, along with cleaning and grubbing operations. Additionally, open foundation construction is moving quickly, which is a noticeable advancement in the realization of the corridor.

Rail Analysis India reports that the open foundation work has been completed at 19 places and is ongoing at 42, with the geotechnical research being 50% finished.

There are three bullet train stations along the BKC to Zaroli route: Thane, Virar, and Boisar. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region encompasses each of these stops (MMR). From these Mumbai suburbs, thousands of people travel every day on local trains, buses, and private automobiles.

There will be twelve stations along the bullet train line; eight will be in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra. These are the following stops: Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai in Maharashtra; Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, and Bilimora in Gujarat.

The goal of the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is to link Ahmedabad, the biggest city in Gujarat, with Mumbai, the financial and economic center of India. The line is now under development.

It will become India’s first high-speed rail line after competition. Trains on the 508-kilometer rail route will operate at a speed of 320 km/h, cutting the whole journey time to only two hours.
