Of the bids for battery storage PLI, Reliance and JSW

Seven firms have submitted bids for the Production Linked Incentive, which is part of the government plans to manufacture 10 gigawatt hour (Gwh) Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage. These companies include Reliance Industries, JSW Neo Energy, Amara Raja, and Lucas TVS.

According to a statement released by the ministry of heavy industries, Anvi Power Industries, Acme Cleantech, and Waaree Energies have also shown interest in establishing advanced electric power storage capacity under the PLI plan.

Starting on January 24 of this year, bids were requested to build up a 10 Gwh capacity. Technical bids were launched on April 23, 2024, and the application deadline was April 22, 2024.

When the program was initially launched in 2021 with an investment of Rs 18.100 crore, a 50 Gwh capacity was to be put up under PLI. Of that, 10 Gwh is the remaining capacity of the ACC. March 2022 marked the end of the ACC PLI bidding’s first round.

Following a bidding procedure, four firms were chosen in March 2022 to receive incentives: Rajesh Exports Limited, Ola Electric Mobility Private Limited, Hyundai Global Motors Company Limited, and Reliance New Energy Solar Limited.

Hyundai withdrew from the program by August 2022 when Hyundai of Korea made it clear that it was unrelated to Hyundai Global.

Ola and Hyundai Global won a 20 GWh capacity in the first round of bidding, while Rajesh Exports and Reliance received 5 GWh. Hyundai 20 GWh was pulled out of the auction and put back up for bid.

Subsequently, the government decided to divide the 20 Gwh evenly between grid-connected battery storage and mobile and other applications.

An incentive expenditure of Rs 3,620 crore has been offered for the 10 Gwh capacity for which bids have been received.
