The Government Has Issued A Serious Security Alert For Microsoft Windows PC Users In India: What Must Be Done?

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has sent out a fresh security alert to Microsoft Windows PC users, raising concerns about a vulnerability in many Windows versions. Although Windows 10 is the most recent version of the operating system that customers can purchase, the warning indicates that even Windows 11 computers may be vulnerable to security flaws.

The new notice has been given a critical severity level, which indicates that updating Windows to the most recent version on your computer is the only way to resolve any security issues.

THE INDIAN GOVT’S SECURITY THREAT TO WINDOWS 10: WHAT IT SAYS The Certified-The advisory provides an explanation of the root cause of the problem, stating that the vulnerabilities stem from inadequate execution of the Mark of the Web (MotW) feature in Microsoft Windows and inappropriate access limitations inside the proxy driver. Malware may run on a target machine because the SmartScreen security feature protection method gets around the MotW function.

The most important lesson to learn from this warning is that hackers may be able to go around the protection on your device and utilize the vulnerability to infect the system with malware for malicious purposes. The good news is that Microsoft is already aware of the security risk and has published patches to correct and safeguard Windows 10 and 11 PC users in India and other areas of the globe. The advisory also says that the vulnerabilities are being actively exploited in the wild. The following are a few Windows versions that are impacted by the security flaw:

– Windows Server 2012

– Windows version 2008

– 2016 Windows Server

– Windows 10 (1607) version

– Windows 10 for computers with x64 architecture

– Windows 11 23H2 for computers with x64 architecture

– Windows 10 version 1809 for devices with ARM64 architecture
