The government receives seven proposals under the PLI program to create Advanced Chemistry Cells to further its green energy goal

As many as seven proposals have been submitted for the worldwide contract for the re-bid of Production Linked Incentives (PLI) for the production of 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), which was issued on January 24 of this year, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Heavy Industries on Tuesday.

The government said that the industry’s reaction to the plan has been phenomenal, with seven times as many proposals as there is production capacity available for the 10 GWh that would be given.

Reliance Industries Limited, Waaree Energies Limited, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited, Anvi Power Industries Private Limited, JSW Neo Energy Limited, and ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited are among the contenders for the 70 GWh capacity.

Applications under the plan were to be submitted by April 22, 2024, and technical bids had to be opened by April 23, 2024.

Higher Level Chemistry New generation technologies called cells have the ability to store electrical energy as chemical or electrochemical energy and then release it when needed again. The cells are essential in aiding in the storage of wind and solar energy.

The National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage is a technology-neutral PLI Scheme that the Cabinet authorized in May 2021 with an investment of Rs 18,100 crore. The goal is to achieve a production capacity of 50 Giga gigawatt hours (GWh). Three beneficiary businesses were given a total capacity of thirty gigawatt hours (GWh) after the first round of the ACC PLI bidding finished in March 2022. The program agreement was signed in July 2022 with the chosen beneficiary enterprises.

On January 24, 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industries published a Request for Proposal (RfP) for the purpose of selecting and shortlisting bidders for the “National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage” Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. The objective of this scheme is to establish ACC Manufacturing Units with a maximum budgetary outlay of Rs 3,620 crore, and a total manufacturing capacity of 10 Giga Watt Hour (GWh).
