After the murder, Amar Singh Chamkila’s killers danced and left a letter; the secretary remembers horrifying details

Amar Singh Chamkila, a newly released film by Imtiaz Ali, previously drew attention to the specifics of the horrifying 1988 murder of the Punjabi musician and his wife, Amarjot. Manku, the late singer’s secretary, also recollected the events of the terrible day when Chamkila and Amarjot were shot to death in a recent interview.

Manku disclosed to Cine Punjabi that Chamkila received Rs 8000 for his most recent performance. He remembered that Chamkila and Amarjot had requested dinner prior to their performance, so he let them finish their meal while he walked over to the stage to make sure everything was set up. “Everything’s ready, come on,” Manku said, calling Chamkila and Amarjot over after making sure everything was in order.

The gunmen were there among the throng. On the way, they might have shot him. After he took the stage, they might have shot him. Who knows, if they had fired at the stage, they could have even shot me. They did, however, wait. It was a scene out of a movie when Chamkila came in style in his automobile. “Put your hands together, Chamkila is here,” I commanded. He said in Punjabi, “As soon as I stated this, there were loud booms.

But before Manku could realize anything was wrong, he saw Chamkila stumble close to the vehicle. When Manku realized what had transpired, he sprang off the platform. He first believed, “You are not going to make it out of this alive.” However, he was then informed that after killing Chamkila, his assassins had done bhangra. Not only that, but he also disclosed that the murderers had placed a blood-stained note on Chamkila’s breast.

“I was too afraid to peek outside, but the individual next to me explained what she saw. “There are three men doing the bhangra,” she said. A letter has been preserved on Chamkila’s breast. After a while, I saw and read the letter. Blood had seeped into it. Riding scooters, they drove off. He said, “I picked up the bodies myself.”

Lead roles in Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila go to Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. Netflix is now offering the movie for streaming.
