Before welcoming her son Azad, Kiran Rao opens out about her five years of miscarriages: “It Was Difficult to…”

Kiran Rao, the ex-wife of Aamir Khan, made a spectacular return with her second feature film, Laapataa Ladies. Fans and well-known figures in the business showered Rao with gratitude. In a recent interview, Kiran was asked whether she regretted taking a temporary break from her work ten years ago to raise her son Azad. In response, the director disclosed some startling information about her difficulty with pregnancy.

In an interview with Zoom, Kiran said that she had many miscarriages. The filmmaker declared her desire to have children. “Azad was born in the same year that Dhobi Ghat was created. And I had made a lot of effort to become a parent. I had suffered many miscarriages and other physical health problems for five years. Simply put, I was having a terrible time being a parent. Since I was eager to become a parent, Azad’s birth was… I was spared from having to choose. Of course, my only goal in life was to raise my child.

“Having Azad was so much fun. I had some of my greatest years ever during those years. I will never feel guilty for not making a movie in ten years. I truly liked it, so I don’t have any regrets,” she said in the interview.

Through surrogacy, Aamir Khan and Kiran brought their son, Azad, into the world in 2011. Azad is their kid, and they co-parent him now that they are divorced.

Choosing to use a surrogate
Kiran disclosed information about seeking a surrogate in 2013. The reasons why someone can’t conceive naturally or why they prefer one procedure over another are private matters, and individuals generally don’t want to discuss them. We made the choice to be transparent because we were aware that we would always be questioned about it since we are in the public spotlight, and we have never felt defensive about it. Naturally, it is better yet if others may learn from our experience.
