ED seizes properties worth Rs 98 crore from Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty

In relation to a money-laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Thursday that it had attached moveable and immovable assets worth Rs 97.79 crore that belong to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra. The assets include equity shares in Raj Kundra’s name, a residential property in Pune, and a residential unit in Juhu under the name Shilpa Shetty.

Based on many FIRs filed by the Maharashtra and Delhi Police, the ED has opened an investigation into Variable Tech Pte Ltd, the late Amit Bhardwaj, Ajay Bhardwaj, Vivek Bhardwaj, Simpy Bhardwaj, Mahender Bhardwaj, and other multi-level marketing agents.

The lawsuit deals with using Bitcoins to deceive investors. Allegedly, the defendants amassed enormous sums of money from the general public in the form of Bitcoins (valued at <6,600 crore in 2017) by making fraudulent claims of a 10% monthly yield. Investors were expected to get enormous returns on their cryptocurrency holdings, and the gathered Bitcoins were intended to be used for Bitcoin mining.

However, an investigation official said that the promoters had deceived the investors and had been hiding the illicitly obtained Bitcoins in mysterious online wallets.
