Exclusive: Taha Shah expects that this series will be his “second innings” after recalling their “iconic” first clash under SLB, the Heeramandi helmer

The magic that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has worked on his TV series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will be shown to the public in the coming days.

Some of the celebs had heart-to-hearts with Pinkvilla before to the show’s OTT release. Taha Shah related stories about how he obtained the role of Tajdar throughout the conversation.

Actor Taha Shah remembered his famous first interactions with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali during our conversation. He also said that after accepting a three-day part in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, he was requested to reprise a different role in the television series.

“I got a call from his office that he (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) wants to meet me,” he said. I thus got to know him. I wanted to know what he wanted to discuss with me about a three-day job. He questioned me about my prior work both during and after that discussion, and then he gave me a bigger part as Balraj. I was thrilled to be taking on a more significant part and to be portraying a revolutionary. That was all I really want.

When the director phoned Taha again after the look test for the character of Balraj, he assumed he would be cut from the cast or put back in for the three-day role. However, SLB informed him that he had seen something in his eyes, which is why he had cast him as Tajdar.

Speaking about his involvement in the Netflix series, Taha said, “My goal was to play Tajdar.” I’ve read Balraj’s scenes, and Tajdar was undoubtedly the main figure. Though I didn’t anticipate it, I was praying for it. But I was asleep at that same moment when he stated it. After that, I didn’t hear from him for three months until he confirmed that I was Tajdar. All I wanted was to be included in the show. Thus, it concluded our first encounter, sir Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was unexpected; nothing better could have been imagined.

“Hopefully, this will be my second innings in the industry and this shall open up a few more doors to work and do different sorts of characters,” Taha said in closing reflections. via May 1, 2024, the series will be made available via a streaming service.
