Hey! Tonbo Golf anime releases its second teaser trailer ahead of its April 6 debut

On the official website, the most recent promotional video for the anime version of “Oi! Tonbo” (Hey! Tonbo), the manga by Ken Kawasaki and Yū Furusawa, has been revealed. Intriguingly, the video also revealed that the anime would launch on the TV Tokyo channel and its associated networks on April 6 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT: April 5 at 9:00 p.m.), with a second premiere on BS TV Tokyo on April 8. Furthermore, the audience was entertained by perceptive remarks from the lead voice actors, Rika Hayashi and Hiroki Tōchi.

Hiroki Tōchi as Kazuyoshi Igarashi and Rika Hayashi as Tonbo Ōi are among the cast members of the anime. The series, which is produced by OLM and directed by Jin Gu Oh, features character design by Akira Takeuchi and scriptwriting by Mitsutaka Hirota. Color key artist Naoto Kondō controls the art, Keita Hattori oversees the 3D work, and Kazuhiro Arai handles the artistic direction. Masafumi Mima is the sound director, Tomoyuki Ishiyama is the compositing director of photography, and SMDE is in charge of the computer-generated imagery. Nobuko Toda created the music for the series. TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI played the closing theme, “Let’s Swing,” while Sacre e sole delivered the opening theme, “Habatake” (Spread Your Wings).

The story of the manga opens with Igarashi, a former professional golfer, being disqualified as a result of an unexplained “incident.” He moves to the Tokara Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture in search of privacy from the media. Here, in “the last uncharted wilderness of Japan,” he meets Tonbo, an apparently innocent girl with an extraordinary golfing skill. Tonbo, equipped with just a 3-iron, shows off amazing abilities on the makeshift golf course on these ostensibly uncharted islands. Igarashi discovers the unspoken suffering and grief in Tonbo’s background and is both amazed and dubious of her powers.

The manga by Kawasaki and Furusawa, which was first serialized in Weekly Golf Digest, a golfing magazine published by Golf Digest Sha Co., Ltd., has received a great deal of praise. December 2023 saw the publication of the manga’s 48th collected volume, which helped prepare fans for the much awaited debut of the anime adaptation.
