Kamal Sadanah, Kajol’s co-star in “Bekhudi,” remembers seeing his family’s murder in front of his eyes: “There’s a reason I made it through it.”

In 1992, Kamal Sadanah made his feature film debut, costarring with Kajol in “Bekhudi.” But catastrophe befell him before he could become a well-known hero.

Kamal courageously spoke about the horrible event in which his father, producer Brij Sadanah, killed his family members before taking his own life in a recent interview.
Kamal survived despite suffering a gunshot wound to the neck, while his mother, father, and sister all died.

Looking back on the terrifying ordeal, the actor said he suffered severe mental pain from seeing his family’s terrible death up close.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kamal described how he had miraculously survived and disclosed that a bullet had entered his neck and come out the other side. He underlined how mysterious his survival was and expressed his resolve to find out why it happened and to live a happy life going forward.

Kamal said that the unfortunate incident on Kamal’s birthday was carried out by his drunken father. He stressed that his family’s character was not fully defined by the horrible occurrence. Kamal described the confusion of that day, not realising he had been shot himself, as he drove his injured mother and sister to the hospital. He gave their care first priority and told the physician to attend to his mother and sister first.
Kamal said that he had to have surgery to heal from a gunshot wound he had sustained. When he went home after waking up, he was horrified to see his family members who had passed away. At first, he didn’t celebrate his birthday for a long time. He did, however, throw a party a few years ago, despite his continued unwillingness to celebrate. Even so, his friends never stop being there for him, cheering him up on his birthday.
Recognising that he is not alone in going through such pain, Kamal said that he still lives in the same home where the incident happened. He considered how tragedy is a universal experience, seeing that a great number of people have gone through similar struggles and losses.
Kamal is still acting in movies, usually in supporting roles. His most recent role in “Pippa” as Sam Manekshaw demonstrates his adaptability and continued career in the field.
